What’s a Hybrid Window?

In the world of windows, we are truly spoilt for choice. Have you even ever heard of a Hybrid

Window? To put it simply, a Hybrid Window is similar to a double glazed one except the inner and outer frames are made from different materials. It is very popular for coloured window frames due to the material it is made out of.

We have accumulated some FAQ’s and answers to help you decide whether a Hybrid Window is best for you or not.

What’s it Made Out of?

Hybrid Windows are made out of PVC (on the inside frame) and Aluminium (on the outside external facing frame). Since Aluminium is more of a conductor to cold and heat than PVC is – as well as more expensive – hybrid windows with are a more popular compromise that combines energy efficiency and value for money. It is even more recommended when you want to have colour exterior window frames as they bake the paint into the aluminium, making the pigment more durable and bold.

What Does it Offer?

Due to the strong frames of the windows, hybrid windows are very durable and long lasting. Externally they are amazing for when you want to have some coloured windows, as the choice for colour is unlimited.

The two materials also work very well together meaning your home will continue to be insulated and noise pollution may be blocked out.

But won’t the Colour Eventually Fade?

It will eventually, however it will take a lot longer to fade than other materials will.

It is important to know the difference between applied paint and baked paint as not all paints will react the same when in natural sunlight. The colour is baked onto aluminium windows so the results will be different and last longer.

Is it Environmentally Friendly?

It is important to consider eco-friendly facts before purchasing windows as homes cause such a large proportion of the UK’s overall C02 emissions.

The two materials that create the hybrid windows are most definitely recyclable with no landfill waste. In fact, aluminium is already known for its recycling capabilities as well as being an unlimited resource.

The high quality of the window also means that there is less need to use central heating around the house to keep it warm during the colder months which is also a lot more eco-friendly. So yes, hybrid windows are very much environmentally friendly.

How Much do they Cost?

These types of windows do tend to be more expensive than usual windows due to their complexity and installation. You may be able to find them for approximately 20% more than other comparable aluminium-only windows.
